About

Edgar Ward is a London-based sculptor working with clay, stone and digital modelling. He was born in Horsham, Australia in 1995 and spent most of his childhood in Islamabad, Pakistan and Delhi, India. As a teenager he moved with his family to Paris, France. Edgar’s lifelong practice of drawing has been fed by the complexity of his surroundings in the urban environment and the merging of history, nature and contemporary cultures, and remains the core of his work.

Edgar followed these interests to the City and Guilds of London Art School, completing an art foundation in 2015 and went on to study stone carving for three years, graduating in 2018. He set up his first studio in Brentford where he worked on architectural carving and sculpture commissions for public and private sites. He began to expand his art practice, using clay as his primary medium for its immediacy and the ability to combine form, gesture and mark-making in three dimensions. He enrolled on the ceramics programme at the Royal College of Art, graduating with an MA in 2021. During the pandemic, Edgar began to explore the potential of digital modelling and scanning, and the emerging technology of clay 3D printing within his practice.

He currently works from a studio in Vanguard Court in Camberwell, South London.
